BACKGROUND:  Splash Salon is more than just a hair salon.  Aside from doing great hair, the owners and stylists of the salon are focused on giving back to the community.  The Cut-A-Thon is not the first fundraiser Splash Salon has hosted.  Along with ongoing sponsorship and participation in various local community charities (programs for battered women, Second Harvest Food Bank, The Miss Huntington Beach Pageant, Huntington Beach Community Clinic Duck-A-Thon, programs that recycle human hair in making wigs for cancer patients, just to name a few), Splash has also hosted major fundraisers onsite.  As part of its major Grand Opening celebration a year ago, the salon raised money to sponsor tuition to Golden West College of Beauty for a local deserving student.

Call it a salon or call it a local community center, either way, Splash salon has made its mark in Huntington Beach.  Customers and friends of the salon donate, volunteer, and do whatever to help with Splash-sponsored fundraisers, not only because it’s a fundraiser benefiting a good cause, but because these people subscribe to the “Splash Vision.”
Splash owners Sue and Patti (with combined experience of over 80 years in the industry) envisioned more for their salon than just a place of beauty treatments.  They, too, have their own inspirational story of pursuing their dreams later in life.  Opening the page to a second chapter in life, these good friends recently became business partners.  This is the second “splash” Splash Salon has made.  Sue, original owner of Splash, was forced to shut down the original salon (est. 1985) five years ago when redevelopment forced her out.  Now, back in business, Sue, along with her new partner Patti, is determined to make a long-lasting impact in the hair industry and the local community.

Splash Salon Grand Opening Raises Money for Beauty Academy Scholarship

EVENT:  Splash Salon of Huntington Beach has invited the public to its Grand Opening and Fundraiser.

The goal of the event is to raise enough money to sponsor full tuition to Golden West College Beauty
Academy
for a deserving local student.  The fundraiser will also promote the Autism Speaks™ Walk Now
for Autism.

The event includes a raffle fundraiser and food and drinks.  Each guest will receive one free raffle ticket;
additional tickets are $20 each.  Dozens of local sponsors have donated prizes including a cruise, date
night at Morton’s Steakhouse, a day of beauty at Splash Salon, and many more.

DATE:                    Sunday, November 11, 2007

TIME:                    3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

LOCATION:            9807 Adams Avenue, Huntington Beach,                              CA 92646 (714) 963-7336

BACKGROUND:      Splash Salon
More than just a Hair Salon!

The most unusual thing about this event is that people are coming out of the woodwork to help the owners
put on this event, not only because it’s a fundraiser benefiting a good cause, but because these people
subscribe to the “Splash vision”.

Splash owners Sue and Patti (with combined experience of over 80 years in the industry) envision more for
their salon than just a place of beauty treatments.  Both are active philanthropists and dedicate much of their
time to the betterment of the community around them—supporting programs for battered women, Second Harvest Food Bank, The Miss Huntington Beach Pageant, Huntington Beach Community Clinic Duck-A-Thon, programs that recycle human hair in making wigs for cancer patients, just to name a few.

After only being in business for a few months (this time around), the salon has already become a “community center” of sorts.  Next event scheduled:

 LITERARY EVENING

November 19, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Share your favorite book with people who enjoy reading as much as you do. No Fees, No Club, just
refreshments and enlightenment.

This is the second “splash” Splash Salon has made.  Sue was forced to shut down the original Splash
(est. 1985) four years ago when redevelopment forced her out.  Now, she’s back, with a new business
partner, and better than ever!

Business Watch: Take a dip into Splash Salon

By EVA KILGORE

BUSINESS WATCH

Sue Rees and Patti Grebel are the charismatic owners of Splash Salon, at 9807 Adams Ave. near Brookhurst Street in the Mervyns center. Splash has been open since 1985 in Huntington Beach, but this is the new location.

"We are so excited about our salon," Rees said. "There are many long-time customers, and we're also meeting new people."

Rees and Grebel's salon is a bright, happy space with 11 stations. Hard to find Bumble and Bumble hair products are available here.

From a shampoo and blow dry, weaves, extensions, straightening, nail services, facial and body services and men's cuts, Splash Salon does it all.

Rees believes in community service, too.

"Throughout the year we do seminars, help out where we can, instruct, do makeup, hair and other services for those in need," she said.

Hours: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday. Information: 714-963-7336.
